Scania Edinburgh’s Craig Moore named 2023 irtec Technician of the Year

Scania UK is proud to announce that Edinburgh-based Field Technician Craig Moore has been named 2023 irtec Technician of the Year.

He was announced the winner at the Scottish Transport News Rewards ceremony, where he collected his prize among colleagues, customers and his peers from across Scotland.

Craig said:

“I’m over the moon to be named irtec Technician of the Year – it’s some achievement.

For me, I love my job. I genuinely get satisfaction from knowing when you arrived at a boat, an excavator, a truck or a bus, that you’re the one that helped someone in need when they required help the most.”

Having joined Scania as an apprentice in 2012, Craig’s journey through the business has seen him take any opportunity to develop and perfect his skills.

Paul Smith, Interim Dealer Director for Scania Scotland, said:

“The team is incredibly proud of Craig. He is a real team player. He will help and guide his colleagues on how to complete difficult fault-finding tasks in challenging and sometimes time arduous situations.

Some of the things he’s done is incredible at such a young age. He is undoubtedly a shining example of the talent we have throughout the Scania UK network, and proves the value of our apprenticeship scheme.”

Craig spent 18 months working for Scania Australia. It was here he developed his skills to diagnose, strip, and rebuild engines and gearboxes, as well as discovering his love for Power Solutions.

On his return to the UK, he was keen to share his newfound knowledge with his colleagues to help upskill them. He subsequently built a reputation across Scania UK as the go-to man whenever anybody had a problem with a Power Solutions application.

Craig has spent a short stint working for Scania UK’s Technical Team helping other technicians deal with issues across the country, and even the globe, via the phone.

“Craig is an exceptional and talented engineer. Nothing phases him, and he will turn his hand to absolutely anything.

In the short time he worked in Technical Support, he proved himself invaluable and encouraging anyone interested to learn more. His determination, team spirit, knowledge and empathy are inspirational.”3

Craig follows in the footsteps of fellow technician Steven Clark, Technician at Scania Eurocentral, who claimed the accolade last year.
