Palletline gives ambitious Ryan a step up the career ladder

Ambitious Ryan Street, who was promoted to the position of Depot Manager within Palletline Logistics just nine months ago at the age of 25, has now been shortlisted for a national award.

Ryan’s appointment as Depot Manager of Palletline Whitehead in Croydon was the latest step up his career ladder, having joined Palletline in June 2021.

Now he is among the finalists in the UK Logistics Rising Star of the Year Award which recognises individuals in the early stages of their careers who have already proved themselves class-leading, making a significant impact on the industry.

Keely Priestman, Palletline Logistics’ General Manager – Commercial, said Ryan had enjoyed a string of early successes within his career which led to his promotion. Under his leadership the depot has grown its volumes, improved profits, built stronger customer relationships and tightened its operations.

Ryan credits his early success at Palletline with the guidance and encouragement he has received from the company’s senior management.

He moved into transport in 2019 after seven years of working for McDonald’s. His first position in the industry was with Palletline Member, Sanderson Transport in Market Harborough.

It was while at Sanderson he helped manage the company’s Palletline operations. And when in 2021 he took the opportunity to move to London, Sanderson put him in contact with Paul Elson, Managing Director of Palletline Logistics and he has never looked back.

Ryan’s chat with Paul led to him being initially offered a three-month, fixed-term contract as Logistics Project Manager during which time he helped to successfully onboard Palletline Logistics’ latest acquisitions.

Ryan puts his success at Palletline down to the many opportunities within the business which started from grass roots level up, helping him to build his knowledge and gain experience of the industry. He also highlighted the support he received from Sanderson’s Commercial Director Ed Sanderson throughout his time with the company, in particular with helping him to build his knowledge of Palletline operations.

Ryan also believes his previous roles, which have seen him managing teams of 30 or 40 people, have been a fantastic grounding for his current role.

And with transport and logistics an integral part of everyday life, Ryan believes opportunities in the industry will continue to increase – particularly for young people and graduates starting out in their careers.

“Transport is an ever-growing business which we all rely on,” he said. “Anything we’ve ever bought in a shop or online has at some stage been on a truck.

“It’s a perpetual industry where even I have witnessed a lot of changes, growth and development in the last three years alone.

“There is so much to learn, and for anyone like me who has career aspirations, transport and logistics is a great way of bringing them to fruition.”

Paul Elson added: “Ryan is a valuable member of the team and it has been great to see him grow and develop. From day one he demonstrated an abundance of enthusiasm and a desire to learn the ropes and get ahead.

“He also demonstrates a clear ability to solve problems which will stand him in good stead in an industry where no two days are the same.

“He is a shining example of how a young person can prosper in transport and logistics and he most certainly has a bright future ahead in the industry.”

The winners of the UK Logistics Awards will be announced at London’s Park Plaza Hotel on December 8^th.
