Fundraisers at Hartshorne Group have walked, ran and cycled the equivalent of all around the world!

Staff at Hartshorne Group have clocked up an amazing 26,000 miles of physical exercise as part of the company’s Healthy Heart Campaign.

The Midlands-based company – which supplies and services Volvo commercial vehicles – celebrated the milestone by taking delivery of a new demonstrator truck decorated in Healthy Heart livery.

Fundraisers have walked, ran or cycled a distance equivalent to the circumference of the planet in order to install live-saving heart defibrillators in the community.

Staff and customers logged their physical exercise on an app, with Hartshorne then donating £1 for every hour of activity. So far their efforts have clocked up a mind-boggling total of 26,511 miles during 5,401 hours of physical exercise.

Hartshorne Managing Director Ian Middleton said:

“I’d like to say a huge thank you to all our staff and customers who have contributed to the Healthy Heart Campaign. We’ve now installed defibrillators at five schools in the region, with many more still to come.”

The new demonstrator truck is a state of the art Volvo FM460 with special registration plate D3 FYB (as in ‘defib’). The truck is available to Hartshorne customers when they make a donation to the campaign.

Defibrillators are portable medical devices that come with voice instructions so that they can be used by anybody in an emergency to restart a person’s heart. Around 30,000 people a year in the UK suffer a heart attack that occurs somewhere other than a hospital.

The Healthy Heart Campaign was launched last year in conjunction with West Midlands Ambulance Service. Hartshorne operates nine depots across the Midlands, including major sites at Walsall and Birmingham, plus Alfreton, Burton, Potteries (Newcastle under Lyme), Nottingham and Shrewsbury.
