Yodel announces new Coventry depot following a period of sustained growth

Following a period of sustained growth, UK independent parcel carrier Yodel has announced plans to open a brand-new depot in Longford, Coventry. Covering over 6.5 acres of land and at almost 135,000 sq. ft, the new depot could process and deliver up to 50,000 parcels per day at peak, a 28% increase in output from the Leamington Spa depot, making it the largest within the Yodel property estate.

Prior to obtaining a 7-year lease from 2023, the Coventry location was used during a successful short-term period as a satellite site, prior to the company’s busy Christmas season in 2022.

Due to begin operations at the end of February, the new unit will provide Yodel with further capacity, ensuring the business can continue to meet growth demands. It will include a 99,000 sq. ft warehouse and 6,000 sq. ft of operational office space across two floors. It has been designed to cater for up to 175 vans and 275 courier sorts, plus capacity for 35 trailers and units. Yodel’s investment in this new depot removes the need for a local, temporary peak satellite site in future years.

Mike Hancox, Chief Executive Officer of Yodel, commented: “We are delighted to have the full support of all the stakeholders to open and refurbish Yodel’s new Coventry depot, which will improve best in class facilities for our colleagues, and ensure that we can be more dynamic and fit for purpose. It is an exciting time to be moving to a new location and an important step in expanding the business in the Midlands area.”

Yodel’s ongoing investment in its property portfolio and site infrastructure demonstrates the company’s commitment and that of its shareholders to develop and grow the business, providing colleagues with sustainable and good quality working environments. The implementation of the new depot at Coventry offers excellent road network access to surrounding areas for ease of suppliers and colleagues getting to and from the site.
